The Arthur M. Anderson is a Great Lakes bulk cargo carrier that was launched in 1952 at the American Ship Building Company in Lorain, Ohio. The ship is named after Arthur Marvin Anderson, a prominent businessman and executive in the Great Lakes shipping industry.
The ship gained fame in 1975 when it was one of the vessels involved in the search for the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, which sank in Lake Superior during a severe storm. The Arthur M. Anderson was the last vessel to have contact with the Fitzgerald before it disappeared, and it played a key role in the search and rescue efforts.
Today, the Arthur M. Anderson continues to operate as a bulk carrier on the Great Lakes, primarily transporting iron ore, coal, and other raw materials between ports in the United States and Canada. The ship has undergone several renovations and upgrades over the years to improve its efficiency and safety.
